Every once in a while a piece finds me instead of the other way around, and this one did.

This is a genuine Hubley cast iron doorstop, designed by Anne Fish, an English illustrator who created just a handful of these figural designs in the early twentieth century. Two footmen stand shoulder to shoulder in matching red coats, gold braid, and black trousers, marked "Fish" on the front of the base and stamped 272 on the back. It's referenced in doorstop collector literature as one of only seven known Anne Fish designs made for Hubley.

The paint is all original. You'll see real wear on the faces and the base, the kind that only comes from decades of actually holding a door open in somebody's home, and I wouldn't dream of touching it up. A few chips just mean somebody used it, same as the silver.

Nine inches tall, heavy, honest, and one of a kind. This one belongs somewhere it'll get noticed.

Cast iron, marked Fish / 272, early 20th century, 9" tall. Sold as found, original paint and patina.
